Caring for Your Pieces: Plated Steel, Leather and Wood

Every Samsarah piece is made from one of a few materials: stainless steel with a gold- or silver-plated finish, leather paired with steel, or natural wood beads. Each asks for a slightly different kind of care, and none of it takes more than a moment.
Gold- and silver-plated steel
Stainless steel is a hard-wearing base that doesn’t rust in everyday wear. The plating over it is a thin layer of colour, and that is the part to look after: perfume, lotion, chlorine and sweat wear it down far faster than time does.
Put your jewellery on last, after perfume and moisturiser, and take it off first — before a shower, a swim or the gym. If a piece gets wet, pat it dry with a soft cloth rather than leaving it to air-dry.
Leather bracelets
Leather is skin, and it behaves like it. Water stiffens and darkens it, so keep leather bracelets dry and slip them off to wash your hands. If one does get wet, let it dry slowly at room temperature, away from direct heat and sun. The steel clasps need nothing more than a wipe with a dry cloth.
Wooden beads
Natural wood is light and warm against the skin, but it takes in water and oils. Keep bead stacks away from water and perfume, and lay them flat when you store them so the elastic isn’t left stretched.
Store with intention
Keep each piece apart, in its pouch or box, so harder pieces can’t scratch a plated surface — and away from humid rooms like the bathroom. A few seconds of care a day keeps every piece ready for the journey.
